A Blizzard's Wake | Chapter 2
I wake up
it's so quiet
serene morning
the old man sleeps on the ground
everything is still
calm
fire is smoldering
blue light peers through the windows of the cabin
no blizzard today
Slowly, I drift to consciousness, curled up underneath the bear-pelt blanket. Underneath the blanket is warm, while on my cheeks, cold air gently contrasts. The crisp, cold air feels refreshing; it's the best way to wake up. I quietly stir, leaving my eyes closed just a bit longer. Even before opening them, the quiet swaying wind outside tells me that this morning will be a serene one.
My back aches from lying on the barely padded bed, and I groan as I open my eyes. Cool blue light shines through the window, casting dapples on the ground that make the entire room glow. Outside, the sky is clear, but snow still lines the trees.
